Today has been a beach day. I saw on Google maps that there was a reputedly fantastic beach about a mile from where we are staying. It's another of the best beaches on Phi Phi that is usually only reachable by boat. Because of where we are staying there is a good, well made track through the forest that is easily walkable in about 40 minutes. Crispy loves jungle forest so was very keen to walk there. I will walk anywhere but must admit I was a tad concerned about bumping into the furry little feckers. As it turned out we didn't see a one. They are here on the island but thankfully not near here. Or if they are we are lucky not to have crossed paths with them this far.
As we set off we passed a couple of the local taxi and Crispy's resolve regarding walking started to crumble. I put my foot down and insisted we walk. Crispy grumbled a little at the missed opportunity of a motorised ride but settled after I promised her a packet of crisp and bottle of pop once we reached the beach.
The walk was easy, shaded and fairly flat. Hugging the coast. We were lucky enough to see some wildlife but mostly insects like giant millipedes and butterfly. The spider we passed was huge, at least 6 inches in spread. It had built it's enormous web right next to the track. I don't know what kind it is or if it is venomous so we gave it a wide birth just in case.
The Beach was amazing. Easily one of the best we have ever visited. Pure white soft sand. Crystal clear waters and immaculately clean. It wasn't busy at all and we had a large stretch of it to ourselves. We found a lovely tree close to the water and settled down for the day in the shade of our natural umbrella. It's our first real time in the sun so we were extra careful to keep in the shade and apply the factor 50 every 30 mins or so. The sun is strong and even with all our precautions have turned just a tad reddish.
I am very careful with the sun and take every sensible precaution to avoid sunburn but even so although we are not sore I think we may have overdone it a tad.
The sea was warm with a slight swell but it was difficult to swim as the shallows went on for a good way out. It wasn't possible to snorkel today but it is of no matter as I have organised a private long tail to take us to the best snorkeling spots tomorrow. I'm hoping it's as good over the reefs as they say. Today they have seen shark, stingray and turtles. I hope we are as lucky.
After calling for a little refreshment we made our way back along the trail to our lodgings via some mangroves.
Crispy is tired tonight so after visiting our "local" for even more amazing food it's back to the room to get comfy and relax ready for tomorrow. Tomorrow is our last day here and we have loved it. Really loved it.
Bare and Crispy signing off Phi Phi island . Thailand.
Addendum: Crispy has found a new potential boyfriend so I'm going to have to keep an eye on her to stop her getting giddy.
