Lazy day

Kho Jum is a small island. There are no temples or heaps of rubble to wander around. It's a beautiful island with quiet unspoilt  beaches and nothing else. As such we thought it best that we make the most of what it has to offer. Today has been down time. Nothing more, nothing less just simple downtime. A day spent at the beach.

The "resort" we are staying at was built by and is managed buy Valerie and her Thai husband after they met 25 years ago in Kho Lipe whilst Valerie was travelling south east Asia.  Since then they have built it into a fantastic island paradise with an affordable, personal touch. Now Valerie, her  husband and two grown sons run it as a family business offering 5 star accomodation and services for 2 star prices. It has been amazing and Dear old Crispy has loved it.  I mentioned that today has been downtime so we walked the entire length of the western seaboard. Stopping at tiny beach bars, swimming in the sea and generally kicking back. We have done nothing but relax which is the major activity in Kho Jum.

I forgot to mention that yesterday whilst Kayaking a Sea Eagle was circling us when it suddenly swooped down and tried to catch a fish right next to us. The last time we saw sea eagles up close was Langkawi. They are always fantastic to watch. I'm sure we will see more as we keep heading south.

After an exhausting day doing nothing but congratulate ourselves on how lucky we are to be here we walked back to our lodgings.

The stroll took us through a small rubber plantation. We have never seen this before and it was interesting to see the lads tending to the forest. It's a daily job to keep the rubber flowing as it dries in the heat.  A quick shower and half an hour under the fan saw us ready to relax some more and go for cocktails on the beach deck before dinner.

The cocktails are amazing and we have become keen fans of the MaiThai. They are amazing but very strong containing five differing measures of various spirits. These coupled with a bottle of fine white wine with dinner have made us both just a tad squiffy. Tomorrow we again move south to Kho Lanta. Valerie has arranged transport to the ferry port and I have arranged tickets for the 45 minute speed boat journey to Kho Lanta.

Kho Lanta is a popular tourist Island similar to Kho Phi Phi so we are Only there for 2 nights before moving onto the Trang Islands. It will allow us to replenish our supplies prior to moving south.  I wasn't sure of our path back to Phuket from Trang but think I have worked out a route that will keep Crispy interested. We intend to keep going south rather than cut onto the mainland and head north to Krabi.  Our route will now take us via Kho Ngai and Kho Muk, to Libong and eventually Lipe. This may change but at present it seems like a plan..... Things may change again dependent on transport options..
