Happy Birthday Crispy

Not an awful lot to report apart from it's Dear Old Crispy's Birthday. She's 58 now and clocking on the miles. I've always thought of her in her advancing years as being similar to a series 1 land rover. A beggar to start and get going but once running neither hell or high water will stop her.

We spent another chilled day on Charlie beach and it has lovely. I think she has had a great day. Not many people get to spend their birthday on a tropical island. We took a motorcycle there and walked back to try and keep her moving.

As I mentioned before there are not many eateries here so we have used the same one each night. Amazing food, lovely staff that have taken a shine to Old Crispy and only a stones throw from our lodgings.  The food everywhere has been outstanding. We have not had one bad meal. By this point in our peregrinations we are usually gagging for something homely. This is particularly true in India where after two weeks of mediocre curry we are gagging for a plate of battered fish and chips and Warburton bread. Here the food is varied and incredibly tasty. I don't think we could ever tire of Thai cuisine.

(The fish here is fantastic. Last night we had fresh blue marlin with a lime dressing)

I dropped a hint last night to the restaurant staff that it was Crispy's birthday today and on my uttering the secret password the staff broke into a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday and presented her with a cake. Red Velvet cake with a candle placed in it. Where they sourced it from is beyond me on this little island and the fact that Crispy couldn't eat it did not spoil the occasion. So as not to appear rude I ate it as Crispy watched on and it was gorgeous.  I've promised her a packet of crisps and a bottle of pop tomorrow to make up for it and she seems happy with that.

Tomorrow we move on by private Longtail to Kho Libong and her Birthday treat. I hope she enjoys it. I have not planned much adventuring on Libong as it's her treat and I want her to relax. Other than I believe there is a cave network to explore, kayaking to somewhere intriguingly called Black Dog cove, swimming with Dugong if I can arrange it and snorkelling on the reef.

We will see how it goes. She's tucked up in bed now with a bottle of Fanta ready for the boat ride tomorrow.

(Trying the local rice cakes. Gluten free of course. They were amazing)

(Hilltops sports and social club. I've signed her up for the bowling team)

Crispy has loved it here. We are sorry to be leaving but new adventures await.
