It was Crispy’s birthday today. The old girls knocking on a bit but still going strong.
I used to compare her to a Harley Davidson, Easy to start , comfortable and reliable. These days she’s more like an old Massey Ferguson. Takes ages to start, especially on a cold morning, but once running will go forever and nothing will stop her. Good old Crispy.
We had a lazy start. The guys at our digs have gone out of their way every morning to provide Crispy with a gluten free breakfast. Rice noodles, rice flour dosa, sweet potatoe doughnuts. A veritable early morning feast.
She is usually only given the option of a cold boiled egg, no toast of course, to chomp on but here
the world is her oyster. We had breakfast sorted some more “shower shuffle” laundry and set off to the beach. On our kayak trip we noticed a small Chinese temple at the end of the beach and decided to go exploring. It’s only small but interesting. I am afraid I am ignorant when it comes to Chinese gods but we bought some incense and lit it to remember lost loved ones. We believe in god but refuse to give him or her a name. In Nepal its Buddha, in India Shiva, Arabia Allah. England Jehova. To my belief it is the same person with different names and different faces depending on where you were brought up. For this reason we have no problem and see no difference in lighting a candle in a church or incense in a temple. The result is the same. If everybody thought the same no one would fall out about it.
From the temple a short path led through the jungle to the beach we visited yesterday whilst kayaking. Again it was deserted and we kicked back and chilled out some more.
Crispy really enjoyed swimming and chilling her birthday away in this subtropical paradise. It certainly beat a day out in Wigan and a 2 for 1 at the Beehive.
Time slipped by like honey dripping from a spoon and it was soon time to go get showered. We called into our usual haunt, Daddy’s cafe for a cheeky drink before returning to the digs to get cleaned up.
Once clean, shiny and the sand removed from every nook and cranny we returned to Daddy’s.
The guys here are amazingly friendly and have made us feel very welcome and at home. This coupled with the fact that the food is amazing and they sell Bacardi made it an instant winner with dear old Crispy. The chef is great and will make anything from the menu Crispy fancies gluten free.
Once again the food was amazing. The best rendang beef I have ever tasted.
As we were preparing to leave to get Crispy safely into bed one of the guys asked us to return to the table. When we were seated “happy birthday” played through the speakers and she was presented with a gluten free birthday cake. It was completely unexpected and a lovely kind gesture by all the guys. I would like to thank all the guys at Daddy’s for their kindness and friendship while we have been here. Particularly Rahul and Fazii. Thank you so much guys you made Crispy’s birthday very very special and we really appreciate all your help.
Happy birthday dear old Crispy. Love you loads
