Today has been a rest day. No rush to get out and about so we engaged in our well practiced art of Hurckle Durkling before rising from our very comfy bed. We will be back in Porto, after completing the Camino, for a further 3 nights so there is no real rush to see the sights. I have a few little adventures planned for Crispy once we return here.
We made our way through the city to the impressive Se Do Cathedral to acquire our passports. Crispy was a little underwhelmed with the process. I think she expected crowds of cheering onlookers throwing flowers and good wishes onto the line of pilgrims waiting outside the Cathedral doors. Blessings by priests in ceremonial robes and choirs of angels singing to the faithful. In fact it was a little side door covered in scaffolding with no one around other than Crispy and me. A tiny office with a bored curator who distractedly requested 2 euros each for the purchase of the passport.
There were other pilgrims, or peregrinos as I shall now refer to us, but they were all busy doing what pilgrims do. Which is not a lot other than sightseeing and taking photos of each other.
After acquiring our passports we spent the day walking the city and Riverside. It is a beautiful place. Old and showing signs of its age. Small quaint side streets and large modern plazas sitting happily side by side. It feels like a city that is comfortable with itself and has grown organically from its ancient roots gently into the 21st century.
We look forward to returning here once our peregrinations are completed.
Early night as we set off onto the Camino in the morning. Tomorrow is the longest day of our route from Porto to Vila de Condo. A distance of around 30km. It forecasts broken cloud and temps in the low 20s so it should be comfortable walking. It should give us a good idea of the terrain and what lies in store for the remainder of our journey
I have been asked to include the justgiving link here so if anybody would like to support us it would be very greatly appreciated. If you have already done so then once again we are very grateful for your help.
