Crispy goes east.

Well we’re here again. It’s been a long 2 years since the dreaded COVID entered our lives and put an end to our adventuring. Like everything in life the wheel turns and things slowly begin to return to normal.

All our travelling plans have been put on hold and we have missed out on some amazing planned trips to Cambodia, Laos, Borneo, Sumatra and even visiting the new members of the family in New Zealand. We intend to put this right this year and make up for lost time. Crispy has been fraught at not being able to travel to warmer climbs. She misses the Sun, culture and adventure of travel.  A few weeks ago we were sat in the hovel at Crispy Central, in front of a roaring fire, whilst the recent storms wreaked their havoc around us.

“ I need some sun on my bones” she berated. Not one to ever ignore her complaints or needs I immediately grabbed the eye pod and perused the interweb for a suitable getaway. It’s still early in the year and suitable locations where it is warm and relatively close are few and far between. You can’t guarantee the weather anywhere around the Mediterranean until June so the only realistic option to guarantee her some “rays” is the South Sinai peninsula in Egypt. Quickly a suitable flight and accommodation were sourced. Within minutes we were booked and ready to go. Her little face was a picture of pure joy. She ran upstairs to immediately try to find her bikini, sun cream and comfy shoes.

It’s not really travelling to be honest. It’s a package holiday to Sharm el Sheik on the shores of the Red Sea. We haven’t been on a package holiday for years and I admit I’m a little trepidatious at the prospect.

Coupled with this Egypt is a very popular destination for both Ukrainians and Russian tourists. With the current horrendous situation in Ukraine We we’re worried that this may present a problem as over 20000 poor Ukrainian people have been stranded there since war broke out following Vlads little incursion into the Sovereign state of Ukraine.  On following the news most Ukrainians  have been safely returned to neighbouring friendly countries and the Russians are now not allowed to travel there. So the potential for unrest has hopefully been removed.

Neither of us are “good” with people and we don’t like hotels but at least it will be blue skies and warm. There is no real alternative to a package or at least guided tour when travelling in Egypt. Sharm lies in the south and lone travelling is advised against by all governments as it involves travel through some unruly areas and safety cannot be guaranteed. Not that it can be guaranteed anywhere.

Our next real travel is in in June. Last year the plan was to start off where we finished on our European odyssey. We finished in Dubrovnik (it’s all on here in the blob) and intended to continue south at the first opportunity. This time We intend to fly to Montenegro which is just South of Dubrovnik and spend several weeks working our way through Albania into Greece and then around the coast of Greece and the Peloponnese peninsula to Athens. Sounds amazing and we are looking forward to it. It will certainly be an adventure.

January sees us off to Singapore en route to New Zealand and the new babies. From there the world is our oyster and we haven’t as yet decided where to go. I’m sure something will present itself. It always does.
